Western Australia’s home of live entertainment, RAC Arena, has been certified as a ‘Green Venue’ under Green Music Australia’s sustainability program. Achieving a score of 4 stars, equal to the current top ranking venue ICC Sydney, RAC Arena is the first venue in the state to be recognised in this initiative.

The Green Venue Certification program, which launched in 2025, incentivises and celebrates venues undertaking positive change for the planet. Participating venues are measured against a range of key selection criteria including energy, waste, water, food & drinks and procurement. Once assessed, venues are provided with a star rating based on their performance.

Led by the in-house committee, the Eco Champs, in partnership with waste management company WRITE Solutions, the venue has developed a comprehensive waste management roadmap. Since the start of this year, new data shows that RAC Arena is diverting more than 98% waste from landfill (in volume), well exceeding the 70% goal.

Alongside the introduction of compostable packaging, and the installation of green bins to capture organic waste, in 2019 RAC Arena implemented Stack Cups at its bar outlets, a reusable cup which conveniently stacks for easier handling.

Additionally, RAC Arena’s sustainability approach incorporated the introduction of Containers for Change in 2021 which has so far donated over $100,000 to the venue’s charity partners including the beloved, Salvation Army WA.

RAC Arena’s General Manager, Michael Scott said, “We’re proud to be recognised as a certified Green Venue. Part of our mission is to make a positive difference in the community we operate in, and this acknowledgement demonstrates we’re taking the right steps to reduce your venue’s environmental footprint.”

Scott goes on to explain, “This achievement highlights the arena’s exceptional environmental strategies and initiatives, and our ambitious plan to set the new standard for sustainability excellence in the live entertainment industry in Perth and beyond.”

Green Music Australia, National Programs Manager, Emma Bosworth goes on to add, “What a pleasure to welcome RAC Arena to the outstanding group of East Coast venues participating in our Green Venue Certification. It’s great to see a venue implementing such a diverse range of waste streams, a powerful step towards reducing the amount of waste that goes into landfill. The reusable stack cups are a great visible reminder of the venue’s commitment to sustainability. Congratulations to the RAC Arena team on achieving 4 stars.”
